Urban Regeneration of Kabul

Turquoise Mountain Foundation

Founded in 2006 by HRH The Prince of Wales and H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Turquoise Mountain Foundation is a non-governmental organisation with a mission of cultural regeneration in Afghanistan, creating jobs, skills and a renewed sense of national identity.

Cultural Regeneration in Afghanistan

Turquoise Mountain Foundation believes community health to be of utmost importance to urban regeneration. Bonita Trust has contributed funds, alongside the World Bank’s Kabul Urban Regeneration Programme (KURP), to provide essential infrastructure including water supply, drainage, sewerage preparation, sanitation, and hydrants to the Kabul community, aiming at urban regeneration of Kabul. Bonita’s donation helped Turquoise Mountain complete a campaign to secure matching funds totalling $2,000,000.

In June 2006, President Karzai said:  “I warmly welcome the Feroz-koh (Turquoise Mountain) initiative which will contribute to the preservation and further development of Afghanistan’s rich cultural heritage.”

The Foundation is one of the Prince Of Wales’ Charities, a group of non-profit organisations of which the Prince is President.
