Sporting Events and Activities

As a supporter of sporting activities, The Bonita Trust was proud to be involved in promoting and sponsoring a variety of sports and events, including the sponsorship of teams and associations to represent Gibraltar at international events.

Oct 2007 — Special Olympics Shanghai 2007

The Bonita Trust partly sponsored the Special Olympics Gibraltar team to participate at the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Shanghai. The team was very successful and brought back to Gibraltar a number of gold, silver and bronze medals. This is one of the most significant international successes for a Gibraltar sports team.

July 2007 — European Maccabi Games, Rome 2007

The Bonita Trust partly sponsored a 5-a-side futsal team to represent Gibraltar at this international sporting event held in Rome, Italy. This year the team did not win any medals but in the past it won a silver medal.

May 2007 — Gibraltar Island Games Team in Rhodes

The Bonita Trust was a major sponsor of Gibraltar’s 200-strong delegation to the Island Games, which were held in Rhodes in the summer of 2007. This marked the twentieth anniversary of Gibraltar’s participation in the Games, and the team was represented in 13 different sports.

May 2007 — Gibraltar Rhythmic Gymnastics Association at UK Open Championships

The Bonita Trust sponsored the Gibraltar Team to enter the British Open Championships in 2007. The team was very successful and were awarded a number of medals.

April 2007 — Refurbishment of Hargrave’s Sport ground

The Bonita Trust contributed towards the refurbishment works at Hargrave’s Parade Play Area. Works included the erection of new fencing, sports equipment and resurfacing of the playing area. This sports area is much enjoyed by children and adults of all ages.

April 2006 — Gibraltar Amateur Basketball Association

The Bonita Trust gave a significant donation to the Gibraltar Amateur Basketball Association. Basketball is the fasting growing sport in Gibraltar and over 400 children between the ages of 8 and 18 are catered for by this sport. GABBA is currently participating in the Cadiz Provincial League with eight teams. Matches are played in this league almost every weekend. Teams have also been entered in the Island Games and in the FIBA Promotion Cup at Senior, Junior and Cadet levels with teams of both sexes.
